GENERAL SITUATION ACROSS THE UK
The situation remains unchanged: high pressure over Iceland is extending its influence southwards across the UK. Most places will remain dry, although frontal systems will introduce wintry showers along the east coast.
FORECAST FOR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Another cold day across Northamptonshire today, although unlike yesterday we are likely to see some spells of sunshine coming through, more especially during the afternoon. As for this morning, further light snow showers are possible, but these will be patchy and will not result in any significant accumulation. Once more we will have a biting north-easterly breeze, mostly gentle but sometimes moderate, and this will make it feel much colder than the expected high of 5C. Temperatures will fall sharply at first this evening under clear skies, but cloud will roll in from the North Sea later in the night and lows will stabilise at around 0C. It will stay dry though throughout the night.
OUTLOOK
Wednesday is expected to remain essentially dry across Northamptonshire. There could be a suggestion of something wintry in the air first thing, but this will clear. However, we are likely to hold on to a fair amount of cloud due to the presence of weak frontal systems across parts of East Anglia and the South-East. The wind will be gentle, still bitterly cold with a north-easterly flow. Highs on Wednesday will climb to around 4C falling overnight to -2C. Another largely dry but cold day will follow on Thursday. Once again there will be an increased risk of some wintry showers later in the day, but these will fade away by evening. Highs of 3C during the day falling to -3C overnight. It will continue dry through Friday, but wintry showers will become more widespread on Saturday and as the wind picks up to a moderate north-easterly, it will feel bitterly cold. At this stage, the very cold conditions are set to continue well into next week.
