Welcome to the web site of the Department of Geography and
Geology at Northamptonshire Grammar School. This web
site contains information for pupils, their parents,
prospective parents and those generally interested in
the activities of the department.
The department offers courses at
Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 & 9), GCSE (Years 10 &
11), AS (Lower Sixth) and A2 (Upper Sixth). One of the
major strengths of the department is its provision of
fieldwork experience for pupils throughout the school.
Regular visits to Scotland, Snowdonia, the Peak District,
Dorset's Jurassic Coast and North Norfolk ensure that
pupils are able to apply their knowledge to the real
world as well as conduct geographical investigations
of their own design.
The combined teaching of Geography
and Geology at Northamptonshire Grammar School ensures
that pupils are provided with a thorough grounding in
earth science and develop the skills necessary to fully
understand the complex inter-relationships between mankind
and planet Earth. The pupils are taken beyond
National Curriculum requirements to develop a detailed
awareness of the planet's human and physical systems
and an ability to engage themselves in topical issues.
